Ardross
Designed for a large 1000m² block in Ardross, Perth Western Australia, the brief called for a modern contemporary residence that would take advantage of the expansive Swan river views to the rear of the site. With such a large site, the floor plan resembles an "L" shape which wraps around an expansive pool and garden area. The main living areas on the upper floor open out on to a large balcony with view to the river and the pool area below. The architectural features of the front facade promote clean lines whilst raw materials add to the contemporary nature of the design.
North Beach
Situated in the coastal suburb of North Beach, one street back from the Indian Ocean, this residence was designed to maximise the use of outdoor and entertaining areas. A seamless relationship between the interior and exterior is particularly evident through the large alfresco area which extends between the upper pool deck and lower front gardens. The bold entry statement is balanced by a floating skillion roof which cantilevers over the front walkway, while clean lines and finer profiles extend over the remainder of the residence.
Claremont
A beautiful blend of materials have come together to make this Mt Claremont home stand out from the crowd. Showcasing polished concrete, recycled brickwork, timber, steel and other industrial and semi industrial materials it’s a perfectly illustrates the importance of materials and how they work to complement each other as opposed to overpower. Low maintenance, architecturally interesting and truly one of a kind.
Mosman Park
Located in Mosman Park, this chic family home was designed to capture the client’s preferred architectural style.
The modern finishes such as polished concrete and black window frames are complimented by modern light fixtures and softened by timber features.
The home provides a functional layout that integrates seamlessly with the alfresco and landscaped areas to the rear of the home.
Swanbourne
Located on a corner site in an exclusive Swanbourne estate, the client brief called for maximised space with views over the neighbouring bush land
The residence adheres to the principles of passive solar design, with expansive glazing to the northern aspect and extended eaves and shading devices to the west.
The playful balance of cubic shapes are defined by the way they advance beyond the main ground-floor structure, enforcing further depth in to the residence. The use of raw timber and concrete provide a welcoming contrast to the perfectly set white acrylic render which wraps around the main structure.
Como
Following subdivision approval for the creation of two lots from the parent lot in Como, the client put forth an idea of separate yet complimentary two storey dwellings – this residence is the first of two contemporary narrow lot designs.
The side entry door affords privacy for residents but does not compromise street surveillance whilst the theatre and upper floor bedrooms overlook the street via the well-balanced elevation. The low roof pitch, contrast render finish, feature cladding and angle strut modestly distinguishes this residence in the street. Solar access for the main living and bedroom areas are maximised with significant glazing areas oriented to the north.
Sorrento
Situated in the coastal suburb of Sorrento, this Hamptons inspired home was designed to make the most of a small site. From the moment you walk through the entry doors an open area encompassing the entry, study and stairs create a sense of space whilst a wide entry hall leads occupants to the open plan living area which overlooks a park and lake to the rear. This sense of space continues upstairs and the finishes, fixtures and fittings were all carefully chosen to tie in with the architectural style.
Mt Claremont
Located on a leafy street in Mt Claremont, this modern single storey residence was designed to meet the changing lifestyle of a young family.
The parent's and children’s areas are separated by an open plan kitchen, family and dining, which hosts a high raking ceiling to give an added sense of space.
Highlight windows placed neatly above a set of bi-fold doors allow maximum exposure to northern light, whilst the bi-fold doors allow the open plan living to seamlessly blend with the pool and alfresco areas.
The well balanced facade is complimented by wraparound louvers and a stone clad blade wall. These provide additional depth and architectural interest, whilst a simple colour palate supports the modern styling.
Sorrento
An eclectic amalgam of materials, styles, structural and whimsical elements, this residence makes a unique addition to the Sorrento streetscape. On the sloping corner site, brick retaining walls and fencing carve a terraced setting without diminishing the visual connection to adjacent parkland. Coastal style influences the material and colour palettes (weatherboard cladding, timber and porthole features, a light render finish) while recycled masonry, refined structural steel and timber add a delicate industrial external rigging – tying together the outdoor and indoor living.
Blending the idiosyncratic brief with practical restraints forms a unique design to delight not only inhabitants but all guests and passers-by too.
Stirling
Situated in close proximity to the Stirling Lakelands, this residence was designed to maximise floor area whist still adhering to the requirements of the local council.
From its stunning elevation which boasts well balanced features and clean lines, to its grand spacious entrance with feature staircase and void, this residence is very generous with the space it provides throughout. The residence boasts four large bedrooms which all have en-suite access allowing all residents and guests the luxury of privacy. The large open plan living area with feature fireplace opens out onto the stunning alfresco and outdoor kitchen area providing a seamless relationship between indoor and outdoor living.
Como
Following subdivision approval for the creation of two lots from the parent lot in Como, the client put forth an idea of separate yet complimentary two storey dwellings – this residence is the second of two contemporary narrow lot designs.
The private side entry opens to a foyer with a 2 storey void over, giving a sense of space whilst the high ceilings throughout lead to the main living area which overlook the gardens to the rear.
The master suite is situated at the rear of the home which provides privacy from the main living areas and other bedrooms.
The layout of the home is very functional and allows zones of the home to be closed off when not in use saving on the cost of heating and cooling.
Swanbourne
Located in Swanbourne this family home was designed to maximize the modest 400m² lot.
Locating the main alfresco area towards the front of the block made best use of the required front setback by connecting the main outdoor entertaining area with the largest expanse of grass and garden area. Smart design minimised the wasted space inside the home and provided bright and functional areas that were designed to feel larger than they really are.
Floreat
With an irregularly shaped site located in the established Floreat suburb, the clients described a vision of a home that maximised site area and one that would suit the evolving needs of a growing family.
Designated activity and entertaining spaces for the parents and children afford privacy when desired, but it is the wide entry with raking ceilings and extensive glazing of the open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas that open the house to the outdoors and which will define the utility of the site.
Since the site grades down from street level, a dynamic elevation of angled forms and contrast bring the home up from a modest single storey grounding to interact with the street and invites the eye to dwell a little longer on this unique design.
Coogee
Inspired by the proximity to the breaking surf, this home adapts the Hampton style to a contemporary West Australian context. The composed elevation, with stately verandah and wide balcony is warmed by natural stone, smartly clad with weatherboard and dressed with a palette of cool whites and calming greys.
The classic colours are continued through the home, highlighting the sprawling internal living areas. With other utility areas at the centre of the home is the kitchen, open to internal living and ‘on theme’ with cool stone benchtops, shaker style cabinetry and large island.
A Study and Sewing room complete the downstairs living areas. Up the timber clad stairs, complete with custom timber balustrade, is an escape to carpeted living and private sleeping areas. The master suite, complete with freestanding bath, walk-in shower and double vanity is accessed via double doors. The remaining bedrooms are large and light-filled by virtue of the northern orientation.
Mullaloo
Separated from the ocean only by dunes, this home design establishes a significant connection with the Mullaloo coast. Bold linear forms anchor the large elevated outdoor living space to the landscape and angled planes direct the structure and views of inhabitants westwards. Height within the design is carefully distributed to ensure views from the upper floor.
Ground floor living and sleeping areas surround the alfresco and future pool area to establish a more private connection for residents with the outdoors. A grand, winding staircase leads from the ground sitting area upstairs to main entertaining spaces and highlight windows rake with the high ceilings and open the dwelling further to the stunning landscape.
South Perth
This residence was designed to suit a difficult corner site that measured 364m² yet only 239m² could be built upon due to large easement. Even with these restrictions the house incorporates 4 bedrooms, 3½ bathrooms and an activity room as well as the standard living areas expected in a home.
With a limited site we were required to think outside the box, this is evident through the use of a glass feature wall in the main living area which concealed a flush hidden door leading to the laundry and powder room.
Karrinyup
Located on a sloping site in Karrinyup, this home was designed to capture the amazing views of the hills from the rear of the home.
Given the views were most prominent from the upper floor, we decided that the main living areas including the dining, family and kitchen should be located upstairs ensuring the views were appreciated
from the area’s most frequently occupied.
The downstairs accommodates all the minor bedrooms as well as a separate living room leading out to an alfresco which provides a second entertaining option beyond the balcony provided upstairs.
Waggrakine
In a recently established Waggrakine estate this single storey, stately three bedroom home is a testament to the open and effective working relationship between the client, designer and builder.
The well-proportioned front elevation is articulated with depth and building element heights - the main soft tone texture coat, feature stone cladding, dark render finish and timber cladding accents are brought together with interconnected forms and complemented by front landscaping.
Warmth of the elevation is continued through the residence with timber flooring, opening to a central living hub. The strikingly finished kitchen adjoins the main living areas with outlooks to the alfresco and the rear garden. Well-chosen internal finishes and a high construction standard further add to the appeal of this comfortable family home.
Geraldton
This award winning home situated in Geraldton was designed to create a low maintenance large home that paid particular attention to the finishes and detail. With a modern elevation complimented by a custom laser cut screen the architectural features were also carried through the home generating interest.
Geraldton
With enviable proximity to the coast, this single storey residence presents an impressive façade to the street, bold roof forms, large glazed areas, contrasting external finishes and a modern palette.
The private side entry opens to a large open plan living area, with visual connection to the street and northwards to outdoor living areas.
Carslile
Setting a high standard for development design and finish in Carlisle, each home in this three unit development challenges preconceptions about compromise in subdivision and small lot design. Addressing the street with a well-balanced façade, the entry doors opens into a foyer complete with feature-clad wall and softly-lit display niche. Gently separated from the main living areas are the minor bedrooms, each with well-appointed built-in wardrobes, powder room and large main bathroom. Beyond the foyer opens the internal living area, with views to the covered alfresco and anchored by a large kitchen complete with island bench. A formal lounge or optional fourth bedroom adjoins the passage way to the laundry and master bedroom. The double garage surprises with built-in storage area and large parking spaces.
Bassendean
A modest yet interesting design, this project was set on a battle-axe block in Bassendean. With a high focus on passive solar design and sustainability the end result was an interesting and quirky design that was enjoyable to live in all year round.
Cannington
Located on a large site in East Cannington, this residence was created to maximise views of neighbouring bush land.
With an emphasis on size and space, the integration of living areas within zones delivered open spaces without making them feel empty.
Classic lines combined with symmetrical features ensured a traditional influence was incorporated in to the residence.
Karrinyup
Located on a quiet street in Karrinyup, this residence was designed to meet the changing needs of a young family.
Having previously lived in a 1970’s home on the block, the clients opted to demolish the existing residence to make way for a new home that would that would adhere to the principles of modern day living.
An array of meticulously placed spaces meant a harmonious balance between privacy and open plan living was achieved. A contemporary take on a classic elevation ensured a seamless integration with current architectural surroundings.
Mt Tarcoola
Located on a large site in the seaside suburb of Mt Tarcoola, this residence was designed to reflect a resort style of living.
With clean architectural lines and cubic forms the unique position of the site allowed generous areas of glazing, whilst still maintaining desired amounts of privacy.
Large cantilevered roof planes with solar louvres address the solar principles of the design and allow light to be directed in to the home without compromising on heat gain.
Bicton
In keeping with an evolving leafy streetscape in Bicton, the clients opted to de-construct and subdivide to aid efficacious development. For the northern lot, several designs were devised to accommodate site slope and the client’s emphasis on the connection of indoor living spaces to the outdoors.
The chosen design maximises usable site area through retaining and landscaping – minimising the need for steps through the home. Privacy is afforded to parents with a separate wing downstairs – the communal ground floor living areas connect via a double-height void to the first floor activity space and minor bedrooms.
Despite the maximised site area and building form, the residence appears modest from the street – hints of the ample living areas and well provisioned contemporary home are given in the custom glazing, feature materials and modern style elevation.

Alfred Cove
On a recently subdivided block in Alfred Cove, an executive residence was conceived that would command and impress the streetscape, one with natural illumination of internal spaces.
The striking elevation with a blend of bold forms and materials serenely observes the street and the clad vertical feature unites the external elements with the internal, drawing the observer through to a spacious entry void and into the home.
Generous open living and dining spaces adjoin the large alfresco to the rear and may be opened up to create one large entertaining area. Boasting five bedrooms, with substantial amenities and activity areas, this home comfortably suits the surrounds and occupants.

A remarkable addition to an established City Beach streetscape, this home combines French Provincial grand aesthetics with the relaxed and open style of Australian living.

Rivervale
To capitalise on the development potential of this Rivervale lot, a dilapidated existing residence was deconstructed to make way for multiple dwelling design.
The two-storey development comprises nine dwellings; five ground floor units and four upper with varying bedroom and bathroom configurations to suit different occupant needs. Each unit boasts a private alfresco, external storage area and allocated resident and guest parking.
With passive solar principles in mind, living areas are oriented north (where practicable) and openings positioned for cross ventilation. The diverse, textured material palette (cladding, feature concrete blocks and render finishes) individualises each unit and also presents a united development to the street.
Drummond Cove
Located in Drummond Cove Geraldton, this large site overlooked the ocean allowing views from the main living area and front verandah. With over 500m² of living area the house was designed to accommodate a large family who love to entertain. A large alfresco area leading on to the pool offers a great outlook from the surrounding rooms and gardens.

Located on a quiet corner block in Kensington, this spacious family residence reinvigorates the established streetscape. Gable ends feature on the façade and with modest simplicity tie the design to the federation style of the area.
Retaining walls, some incorporated in the boundary brick fence, carefully contain the sloping site and with landscaped terraces create usable areas for the family. With an emphasis on large, living areas, the design locates the garage safely away from the street intersection, and quietly positions the master suite on the ground floor.

A clearly articulated desire to modify the existing family home to welcome a senior resident and to more appropriately cater to the needs of all occupants defined this renovation design.
An existing upper floor bedroom made way for an independent universally accessible space, with views to adjacent parkland from living and private areas. The master bedroom, with luxurious robe and ensuite renovations, has a fresh outlook to the street via the balcony addition over existing garage.
Bold roof forms, modified window configurations and cladding features redefine the home in the streetscape – a fitting testament to the generational housing modifications of this design.
North Perth
To suit a young family and the confines of a battle-axe block, this astute design makes optimal use of site area and allows residents to optimise use of internal spaces.
Shaped in part by the angled rear boundary, articulated ground floor living areas open to a large alfresco area and surround the secured pool area. Upstairs, the landing opens on to a sitting area with views of the site access way. A private master bedroom with separate ensuite and robe adjoin the modest balcony, and three well-sized minor bedrooms complete this effective family home.

A second kitchen area adjoining the redefined rear entry interacts well with the family areas, and the removal of internal walls to the existing kitchen opens it to dining areas.

The roof itself is a combination of 4 skillion planes set meticulously over rendered external walls.
A custom clad feature wall measuring 4.4m accompanies a 2.6m feature wall with inset SHS columns which supports a cantilevered roof spanning over the entry portico.
A central garden surrounded by full height glazing separates the living and sleeping quarters and provides an abundance of natural light and ventilation.

Located in the riverside suburb of Brentwood, this residence was design to accommodate a couple looking for more room to grow.
With an emphasis on maximising space, the residence was positioned towards the rear of the block making use of the front setback area for a private garden.
Classic Architectural features are represented by the wraparound verandah, gabled roofs and exposed beams, whilst fine detailing ensured the design was completed to a high standard.
Leeming
Located on an elevated rear block in the southern suburb of Leeming, this two storey residence was designed to capture the views of the hillside whilst still remaining within the requirements of the local council.
With the kitchen and main living area located on the upper floor, the lower floor incorporated a separate entertaining area with a kitchenette and direct access to the alfresco and garden.

Greenwood
Located on a sloping site in Greenwood with a fall of over 5m, the design called for a split level home with a under croft garage to help reduce the extent of site works.
With the entry to the residence at garage level, a large open staircase was required to reach the finished floor level of the residence.
The entry and staircase were positioned within a 6m high void, which gave the residence a sense of height to what was essentially a single storey home.

Dianella
Located in a popular suburb that is currently being revitalized, this residence really sets an example in Dianella for others to follow. Subtle architectural features combined with balanced changes in height including a raised entry, creates a bold and grand statement from the street scape.
The objective was to create an open and usable living area that had functional associations with the alfresco, games room, pool area and rear garden. The stunning outdoor area is visible from the master bedroom, family, dining, kitchen games, activity and bed 2 providing visually pleasing line of sight throughout the residence.
